Meet the Press with Rebel Star Thilakan attracts Indian Media Focus
Media forum has conducted three meet the press programmes recently with noted film star Thilakan, the Kerala Transport Minister Jose Thettettil and noted playback sing writer and pote K P Gopi. MP with Thilakan was the most active of the three programmes as journalists from the entire Indian media flocked to the Flora Grand Hotel to "question" the rebel star, who has been expelled from the cine artists association, AMMA. Thilakan, in his original cinematic style, lashed out at the two superstars, Mammootty and Mohanlal, for what he claimed is their "mafia like" operation that causes many problems and restrict the growth of Malayalam films.
The actor, claimed to be a communist from the 1950s. also lashed out against the CPM leadership and the State Cultural Minister M A Baby, who he said is following double standards in handling different artists issues. While the Minister rushed to rescue the superstar Mammootty when his latest film, Pokkiriraja, was held back from release with special packages for the film industry, the communist minister turned a blind eye towards the issue of denying Thilakan's right to work. The actor compared his sorry state of affairs in the film field to that of the state Chief Minister V S Achuthananthan in politics.
